Undergraduate Courses

Elements of Power Systems
(EE 455)

This course provides an understanding of various power system aspects, and covers the following topics: Overview on transformers, transmission line parameter calculation and electric machines; Steady state analysis if transmission lines; Load flow analysis; Symmetrical and unsymmetrical faults; Power distribution; Power system stability; Introduction to renewable energy integration to power systems (wind, photovoltaic and fuel cell). 3 hr./wk.; 3 cr.

Entrepreneurship in Renewable Energy Systems
(EE 59894/ME 59905/CSC 59920/ECO 41250)

This highly interdisciplinary course brings together Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, and Business to prepare students to develop, test, and commercialize innovative ideas related to renewable energy systems. The course focuses on four major components: technical aspects of these devices; exploration of the commercialization opportunities for these devices; the introduction and cultivation of an entrepreneurial mindset to the students, empowering them to start ventures of their own; and a research component that assesses the relative amount of innovation in an entrepreneurial environment as opposed to a purely educational one.3 hr./wk.; 3 cr.
